Elbook privacy

Elbook is a journaling app for iPad, published by Yazmade SARL AU ("we", "us"), a company based in Morocco. This policy covers the Elbook app for iPad and nothing else.

The short version

Elbook collects nothing. What you write and draw stays on your iPad, in the app's own private storage. There are no accounts, no login and no servers of ours. Nothing you write is ever sent to us, because there is nowhere for it to go.

Elbook offers a paid subscription. Apple handles the payment, in the same way it does for every app on the App Store. We never see who bought it.

What we collect

Nothing. We do not collect, receive, store, sell or share any of your information or content. Not the text, not the handwriting, not the images, not the titles of your books, not how often you write or how long for.

We have no way to know that you use Elbook, what you keep in it, or that you exist.

Where your journals live

Everything you make in Elbook is stored locally on your iPad, inside the app's own private storage area:

• Your books, pages, handwriting and typed text are saved in a local database on the device.
• Larger items, such as your handwriting strokes, imported photos, page backgrounds and cover artwork, are saved as separate files in the same private storage area.
• Templates you save yourself are stored as files on the device.
• Small preferences, such as your pen colours and thicknesses and the last book style you used, are saved in the app's own settings storage on the device.

None of this is readable by us or by any other app.

Photos and files you bring in

When you add a photo or import a PDF, iPad shows you Apple's own picker, which runs outside Elbook. The picker hands the app only the specific item you chose. Elbook never gets access to your photo library, your camera roll as a whole, or your files. That is also why Elbook never asks you for photo, camera or files permission. It requests no system permissions at all.

The photo or PDF you pick is copied into the app's private storage and stays there.

Sharing and exporting

Elbook gives you a few ways to take your own content out of the app, and every one of them only happens when you ask for it.

• Export a book as a PDF, from inside that book. Elbook flattens it into a PDF and hands it to the standard iPad share sheet.
• Export your whole shelf as PDFs, from Settings. Elbook flattens every book into its own PDF and hands the set to the same share sheet in one go.
• Export a full backup of your library, from Settings. This builds one file containing every book, page, photo and template you have, so you can keep a copy or move your library to another iPad. It also goes through the same share sheet.

In every case you decide where the file goes, for example Files, iCloud Drive or Mail, and Elbook only builds it when you tap the button. Once you send a file to another app or service, that file is covered by the privacy policy of whatever you sent it to, not by this one.

Backups

Elbook gives you two different kinds of backup.

The backup file you make yourself. Settings has a Backup section where you can create a single file containing your entire library, and restore your library from a file you made earlier. Elbook builds and reads that file entirely on your iPad. Creating one hands it to the share sheet described above, so it is saved wherever you choose, and it is protected however that destination protects it. We never see it and never receive a copy of it.

Your iPad's own backup. Like most apps, Elbook's storage is included in your device backup if you have iPad backups switched on, whether that is iCloud Backup or a backup to your own computer. This happens automatically in the background, without you doing anything inside Elbook. Those backups belong to you and are handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy. We have no access to them. You can turn them off, or delete them, in the Settings app on your iPad.

Subscriptions

Elbook offers a paid subscription, and Apple runs all of it.

Your purchase goes through your App Store account, so Apple handles your payment details, your billing address and your subscription status under Apple's own privacy policy. We never see your card number, your billing information, your name or your email address, and we cannot tell who made a purchase. Apple gives us only anonymous totals, such as how many subscriptions were bought in a country. That tells us how the app is doing. It does not tell us anything about you.

The app checks with Apple whether your subscription is active, so that it can unlock what you paid for and restore it if you reinstall the app or set up a new iPad. That check happens between your iPad and Apple. It does not involve any server of ours, because we do not have one.

Tracking, analytics and advertising

• Elbook makes no network connections of its own. It has no server to talk to, no sync, no login, no update check and no remote configuration. The only thing that reaches the internet is Apple's own purchase system, described above.
• There is no advertising in Elbook and no advertising identifier is collected.
• There is no tracking of you across other apps or websites, and nothing is shared with data brokers or advertisers.
• We use no analytics product to watch how you use the app, and no crash reporting service.
• There are no third party software libraries or SDKsin the app. It is built entirely from Apple's own frameworks and our own code.
• The app contains no artificial intelligence or machine learning of any kind. Nothing you write or draw is ever read, recognised, analysed or sent to a model, on your device or anywhere else. There is no handwriting recognition and no content is used to train anything. Some of the printed artwork in Elbook's own templates is produced with image generation tools as part of making the app, as described below. That never happens on your device, and it never touches your journals.

How Elbook's own artwork is made

Some of the printed artwork in Elbook's designed templates, including templates added in later updates, is produced with image generation tools as part of making the app. No generation happens on your iPad or while you use the app, and nothing you write, draw or import is ever sent anywhere, used as a prompt, or used to train anything.

Security

Your content is protected by iPadOS itself. It sits in the app's private storage, which other apps cannot reach, and it is protected by your device passcode and Apple's built in file protection. Elbook does not add its own encryption layer, and it does not currently have its own passcode or Face ID lock. If your unlocked iPad is in someone else's hands, they can open Elbook and read your journals, in the same way they could read your notes or your photos.

Deleting your data

• Deleting a book from your shelf deletes the book and its files from the device.
• Deleting Elbook from your iPad deletes the app's entire storage, including every book, photo and template in it. This cannot be undone, so export a backup or a PDF first if you want to keep one.
• You can delete any device backup in the Settings app on your iPad, and delete or keep any backup file or PDF you exported wherever you saved it.

Because we hold nothing about you, there is nothing for you to ask us to delete. Records of your purchase are held by Apple, which is between you and Apple.

Children

Elbook contains no advertising, no web browsing and no way to communicate with other people, and it collects nothing from anyone. Subscriptions are protected by Apple's own parental controls on your device.

Your rights

Privacy laws such as the GDPR in Europe and the United Kingdom, and the CCPA in California, give you rights over personal information a company holds about you, including the right to see it, correct it, delete it or have it not sold. These rights apply to you wherever you live, even though we are based in Morocco, because we offer the app in your country.

We hold no personal information about you at all, so there is nothing for us to disclose, correct, delete or sell, and no request for us to act on. We do not sell personal information. Your content stays under your control on your own device.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of Elbook handles data differently, we will update this policy and publish it before that version ships. The date at the bottom of this page shows when it last changed.
